REGARDING TESTING POSITIVE:

MY CHILD TESTED POSITIVE WHAT DO I DO?
Isolate for 10 full days after the positive test.  Call community engagement between the hours of 5am and 10:30pm toward the end of isolation for an exit interview.  You will know you are clear to return when you can create a daily pass again.  213-725-5637 is the number for community engagement.  We recommend calling early in the morning or in the evening or on weekends.

DOES MY CHILD WHO TESTED POSITIVE NEED ANOTHER TEST TO RETURN?
No.  They should NOT take another PCR test for 90 days.
They could, however, take a "rapid test" on day five to return on day six from isolution.  However, "rapid tests" are hard to find and on day five it seems about half the students are still coming back positive for COVID-19 in which case they need to complete the full 10 days of quarantine.

REGARDING BEING A CLOSE CONTACT:

MY CHILD IS A CLOSE CONTACT OF SOMEONE AT SCHOOL WHAT DO I DO?

If you're child is fully vaccinated:

Continue to monitor them for symptoms.  They can continue to participate in school.

If your child is NOT fully vaccinated

They may quarantine outside of school for five days and return on day 6 with a negative test from day 5
OR
They may qualify for modified quarantine if teachers verify that they have been mask compliant which means:

  • they can continue to participate in school but cannot participate in afterschool programming for 5 days
  • they must wear a medical grade mask
  • they must sit six feet away from all other students during times that they are eating because they will need to remove their mask.
  • parents are responsible for taking the student to get tested on day one and day 5 for them to exit modified quarantine on day 6.

MY CHILD IS A CLOSE CONTACT OF SOMEONE OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL

Students who become close contacts outside of school, for example, siblings or children of parents who test positive they do not qualiify for modified quarantine even if they are fully vaccinated and must remain home, test on day 5 and return on day 6.
