WHAT HOMEWORK IS REQUIRED AT MELROSE?
All students should be reading at home for about 20 minutes a day. At all grade levels this sometimes includes you reading to your child. However, in grades 2 and above students should also be reading independently for some portion of the 20 minutes. Reading can be in English or any language.
WHAT HOMEWORK IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED?
Melrose uses these research-based computer adaptive programs that provide activities based on your child's current assessment data and have shown proven results. Each of these programs is accessed by having your child log in to Schoology, going to their class, and clicking on the links on the left hand side. Please do not help your child to complete activities. It's important that they do their own work so the computer can properly adjust to their level. However, if you notice your child is struggling you may turn off the iPad and provide some assistance or reach out to your child's teacher.

WHAT OTHER OPTIONAL HOMEWORK IS THERE?
It's worth repeating that homework is optional. However, teachers may sometimes provide suggested activities to do at home so you are aware of what is being taught in the classroom. Suggested activities may include: test/quiz reviews, unfinished classwork, special projects that go above and beyond classroom curriculum. Please ask your child’s teacher if you have questions. We don’t anticipate this optional work taking long amounts of time but we provide it for parents who want additional information. Homework is not graded.
