Congratulations to Lee T., 4th grade, our 2012 Melrose Elementary Spelling Bee winner, and John C., 3rd grade, our runner-up!
Lee will continue on to the Los Angeles Regional Spelling Bee taking place on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at Walter Reed Middle School.

Thanks to a $4 million donation from the Wasserman Foundation, nearly 600,000 LAUSD families will receive a FREE $15 DonorsChooseLA.org gift card to support a classroom project of their choice.
Parents, you will be receiving an envelope from the school in the mail, which contains the gift card to DonorsChoose.org. Make sure you redeem your FREE $15 DonorsChooseLA.org gift card to support a Melrose classroom project. Log on to www.donorschooseLA.org and donate to a classroom project using your free gift card before Feb. 16, 2012. Search for "Melrose Elementary" to see the projects that you can donate to. Each gift card has a unique code that you will use to redeem your $15.
Starting Monday, January 23, local area Starbucks will be giving away $10 DonorsChoose gift cards to customers. You can use this in addition to the gift cards that were mailed home to you. So if you're getting your morning coffee, please ask them about the gift cards to help our teacher fund their projects!
If you do not know how to redeem your gift cards, please turn them back into the front office or send it back to your child's teacher, so none of it goes unused!
Thank you to all who contributed to the 2011-2012 Melrose Family Pledge Drive. As a school community, our families have raised $40,113 with 71% participation. Both Ms. Podell-Camino and Ms. Miyaji's classes got 100% participation!

You will also receive weekly email updates via the grade-level google groups. After completing the form, you will receive an email invitation to join your child's grade level google group. You must accept the invitation via the link on the email in order to start receiving emails.
